If it's permanent, it would be; if it's used only for trailering or for storage, then it's a boom crutch. _________________ "Make your own kind of music,

| Lay jacks not only support the boom but also guides the sail during reefing. I agree the gallows would occupy a lot of space on your boat Biel. |

Hmm...
Never occurred to me that the Lazy Jacks will aid during reefing operations, now that's a plus for me.
Thanks for the input guys, real big help. |

The full keel done by June, it's about 8 feet in length, the forward point is to the right of the photo; central case is the centerboard case, the round holes are for the access hatches to the centerboard itself:
Quarter view of the keel:
About 12 pounds of lead poured in the forward area:
About 80 pounds abaft the centerboard casing:
Forward keel block made out of yakal wood:
Since then no work has been done.
A couple of hired people were to begin work by the third week of July but we had a fire that gutted half of my home beginning of July, and some of the parts were burned, charred, or damaged as a result. Thus, the project has been put on indefinite hold since the boat fund has been diverted for house fund rebuild. Can't sail the dinghy since the mainsail was damaged (many holes in it now) and a few hardware gone too.
Hope to continue but that's gonna happen next year earliest, since the repair works will continue until December this year.
Cheers. |

Oh no!
And yes first things first.
Is there anything we should learn from your experience? _________________ "Make your own kind of music,

Well, I used a thick bottomed aluminum pot, the 4 quart size, cut up the 44 pound ingots into 10 pounders and melted them one at a time over the gas stove in the kitchen. This took about 15 minutes per piece, then poured directly into the cavities in the keel. It's a lot easier than I expected and too much hype on how difficult it can be. I used a pair of vise-grips to hold on to the pot while pouring.
Maligno and everyone else,
Have someone stay awake at midnight (like me) and wake everyone up and kick them out of the house when you discover a room burning already. Electrical short was the cause. No one was hurt, not even a scratch. We are heavily insured, so we are just inconvenienced right now. Thanks everyone.
Oh, and we moved to Tahanan Village in Paranaque while repair works are on-going, so I am neighbors with the South End Boys.
But hell, out of sheer frustration, I am starting another boat project, a 4.7 meter dinghy with trapeze and spinnakers, and removable ballast.
Cheers. |

House repairs will be done by December. That means you have four months to build. Extra hand carpenter was available since end of July. And I am almost sure you have bigger space in Tahanan Village.
So why are you only building a 4.7-meter?

Good to hear you all are OK. Fires are a horrible experience. You seem to be made of tough and positive spirit to be still enthusiastic. _________________ I'd rather add life to my years than years to my life. |

Just post if you need any help regarding the re-construction of your house. I might have an izusu elf available by end of next month. Just put diesel and I'll provide the driver if you need any hauling to do. _________________ Only a passionate man can pursue thoroughly. But it is the dispassionate heart that can see clearly. |
